The South Pittsburgh RFC is proud to be affiliated with a new high school rugby
club known as the Pittsburgh Fatheads. The club is composed of high school
students who have come together from various South Hills High Schools including
Bethel Park, Keystone Oaks, Mt. Lebanon, Seton-LaSalle and Thomas Jefferson.
The Fatheads, sponsored by the famous South Side eatery of the same name
(www.fatheads.com) was founded in 2007 and participates in a league of
tri-state high school teams which includes Fox Chapel, Woodland Hills,
Barbarians (a combined West Hills area team that plays their home games at
Sto-Rox High), Carrick and Mon River (a combined Morgantown, W.V. club).
The Fatheads, who play their home games at the South Park Fairgrounds and
practice at Keystone Oaks High School, finished their inaugural regular season
with a record of 5-2, and showed improvement with every game. They took this
momentum into the year end the Pittsburgh Harlequins sponsored "May Madness"
tournament at Founders Field in Indianola, PA where they went a perfect 4-0,
but were denied a chance at the championship due to point differentials and
wound up with the 3rd place trophy.
The Fathead's hope to continue on with the momentum provided by their strong
finish and carry it on for years to come. If you are between the ages of 15-18
and want to find out if you have what it takes to play rugby for the Fatheads
please contact Joe Och at joch@wpahs.org, Dr. Mike La Piana at DR_MIKE1@msn.com
or Brian Cox at bcox@fridaylaw.com for more information. We anticipate
beginning practice for next season some time in March, 2008.
